The Background of Condor Airlines

Condor Airlines is a low-cost leisurely airline owned by Attestor Capital based in Hesse, Germany. The airline has been in operation since 1956 and is responsible for transporting its passengers from 9 of the largest airports in Germany and Switzerland to 90 destinations worldwide.

According to their website, the airline claims they are Germany’s most popular leisure travel airline. They were once a part of the Lufthansa group, which owns Germany’s national flag carrier Lufthansa Airlines until Attestor Capital bought 51% of Condor’s shares and took over primary ownership of the airline in 2021.

Interestingly enough with the partnership ending between Condor and Lufthansa, the latter has developed a new leisurely airline that has become a competitor to Condor named Discover Airlines (formerly known as Eurowings Discover).

Where Does Condor Airlines fly to in Germany?

Condor Airlines provides air service to and from the United States. They currently offer two destinations within Germany with nonstop flights from various cities within the United States.

Frankfurt, Germany is the hub for Condor Airlines and has a wonderful skyline and plenty of fun tourist activities.

Frankfurt

The bulk of Condor flights from the United States are routed into Frankfurt, Germany. Frankfurt Airport is one of Condor’s main operating bases. Passengers can find lots of connecting flights to destinations all over the world through Condor in Frankfurt.

For U.S passengers deciding that Frankfurt is the vacation destination for them, it’s a great city to visit. It often referred to as the financial heart of Europe, offers a unique blend of modernity and tradition for vacationers.

Dusseldorf is only accessible from the United States from New York-JFK Airport.

Düsseldorf

Condor as of December 2023, only provides one route to Düsseldorf from New York – JFK Airport. Düsseldorf Airport is another operating base for Condor Airlines where passengers can board connecting flights to destinations all over Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Düsseldorf, a vibrant city on the banks of the Rhine River, is a fantastic destination for a well-rounded vacation. The city is famous for its annual carnival, a lively celebration filled with parades and festivities.

Boston

Condor Airlines offers a seasonal route between Boston and Frankfurt that runs between April through September.

The flight originates from Boston Logan International Airport and terminates at Frankfurt Airport. This route is offered frequently throughout the week, mostly between Mondays and Fridays. There are no flights scheduled over the weekends.

The flight distance is over 3600 miles and takes nearly seven hours to complete. Condor Airlines relies on its long-range Airbus A330 fleet to get passengers safely between these two destinations.

Boston is the closest American city offering a flight to Germany aboard Condor Airlines. The only competition for this route for Condor is it’s fellow German airline Lufthansa.

If you’re a passenger who likes to break plane trips into smaller pieces, flying to Boston and departing from there to Germany might be your best bet.

New York via JFK Airport

The second closest East Coast city with service to Germany is New York JFK International Airport in Queens, New York. A unique fact about Condor and New York is that there are two destinations in Germany you can fly to from New York. Passengers have the option to fly to Frankfurt via Frankfurt Airport or Düsseldorf through Düsseldorf Airport.

Both of these flights are seasonal. The route between New York and Frankfurt is offered all year up to October. The flight to Düsseldorf is provided between the fall months of September to October. This is probably due to the demand for Octoberfest happening in Germany.

Condor flies from New York to Frankfurt up to 4 times a week. Saturday seems to be the only weekend day having a flight across the ocean. For passengers going to Düsseldorf, you can expect the same amount of flights offered per week when September rolls around.

The distance from New York to Frankfurt is over 3800 miles with the flight time approaching 7 hours and 20 minutes. Getting to Düsseldorf takes 20 minutes longer as the German city is a bit more northerly than Frankfurt.

Condor typically flies its Boeing 767s on this route as well as their Airbus A330s.

Baltimore

The Maryland Mid-Atlantic region of the United States is served by Condor Airlines through Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport. Condor provides one seasonal route to Frankfurt from Baltimore. This route is only available between May and September. It is scheduled up to three times a week usually Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

Condor dominates the market share in Baltimore for flights to Germany. There are no other airline that flies to Germany from this city.

The flight between Baltimore and Frankfurt spans just over 4000 miles and takes nearly seven and ½ hours to complete. The airline schedules its brand new Airbus A330 NEOs to compete in this route.

Minneapolis

The Northern Midwest, Great Lakes region of the United States is served by Condor through Minneapolis St.Paul International Airport. Between May and September, passengers can fly from Minneapolis to Frankfurt, Germany.

Besides being the only airport in the upper Midwest region of the United States where Condor Airline provides service to Germany, it is an interesting choice of city considering that at times Germany can be considered a colder weather destination. Minneapolis is known to be very cold during the winter which is likely why this route is offered during the summertime.

This nonstop flight is offered 3 times a week, including a flight on Sunday. The route spans over 4200 miles and takes north of 8 and ½ hours to complete.

Miami

The most Southernly American city serving Frankfurt, Germany by Condor is Miami, Florida. Passengers flying out of Miami will use Miami International Airport to find their flights to Frankfurt.

This flight is only offered seasonally by Condor. The route is only active between March and September. This is great for anyone seeking to beat some of the heat and humidity that comes with being in Miami. Condor offers this flight up to 4 times a week with weekend flights available.

Over 4800 miles separates Miami and Frankfurt, with flight times stretching to 9 hours and 30 minutes. Condor Airlines has to use their Airbus A330 NEO for this route as their Boeing 767s lack sufficient range to make it to Frankfurt safely.

San Antonio

The only city in Texas that has a Condor flight to Germany is San Antonio. Condor Airlines flies from San Antonio International Airport to Frankfurt Airport. This route is offered seasonally between May and September.

Interestingly, Condor decided to utilize San Antonio instead of Dallas. Dallas probably would have a larger market than San Antonio. Also, with Dallas Fort Worth International Airport being a larger airport, there is more room for connecting flights, which would boost the demand for this particular route to Germany.

Just like the route from Miami, this is great for Texas travelers looking to beat the heat. The flight is flown a maximum of three days a week typically between Monday and Friday.

The overall flight time between Texas and Frankfurt is over 10 hours. These two cities are separated by close to 5000 miles.

Phoenix

One of the cities serving the Southwestern region of the United States is Phoenix, Arizona. Condor Airlines provides a seasonal flight between May and September to Frankfurt from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. This route is offered 3 days a week including one trip on Saturday.

Probably one of the lesser-demanded cities compared to Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, it is interesting that Condor decided to keep this route on the schedule. Phoenix serves as a reliever type city to the demands each of the other three cities brings to the table.

The distance to Frankfurt is over 5600 miles with the flight taking over 10 and ½ hours. Due to the length of this route, Condor flies its Airbus A330 NEO which has sufficient range to fly this route.

Las Vegas

The route between Las Vegas and Germany is probably most flown by Germans returning from a great time in Sin City. The route is offered seasonally, three days a week including one flight taking place on Sunday.

However, for native Las Vegas residents boarding a Condor flight to Frankfurt to beat Las Vegas dry heat, it might be a welcomed option for them.

The flight between Las Vegas McCarren International Airport and Frankfurt Airport takes close to 11 hours. With the route being close to 5500 miles, Condor relies on its Airbus A330neo for this particular route.

Seattle/Tacoma

One of two cities in the Pacific Northwest that has a nonstop flight to Frankfurt, Germany through Condor is Seattle, Washington. Passengers can board a flight from Seattle/Tacoma International Airport to Frankfurt Airport. The flight is offered daily, with routes ending in October.

Seattle is the largest of the two cities in the Pacific Northwest which provides plenty of demand for the German market. With Seattle having a large airport and demand market, Condor does experience competition on this route by Lufthansa.

The route across the Atlantic Ocean and the continental United States is surprisingly shorter than the flights to Phoenix and San Antonio. The between Seattle and Frankfurt is just shy of 10 hours.

Portland

The lesser of the two Pacific Northwest markets is Portland, Oregon. Portland International Airport is not a large airport by any imagination. That means there isn’t any competition on its nonstop route to Frankfurt, Germany.

This route is seasonal and is offered three days a week including a flight occurring on Sunday. With over 5000 miles separating both of these cities, the flight takes approximately 10 hours to complete.

Portland, Oregon is a unique choice of city for Condor Airlines to fly from. Oregon is ranked 21st of all 50 U.S. states with a German ethnic population, so there isn’t much demand for Oregonians to visit their homelands. It is one of those cities probably serving as a reliever-type city to Seattle, Washington, or Vancouver, Canada.

San Francisco

Condor Airlines flies out to San Francisco with daily service to Frankfurt seasonally between April and October. It flies out of the major hub of international travel, San Francisco International Airport.

The city is an excellent choice for Condor Airlines to operate from. With much of the transpacific air travel into the United States filtering through San Francisco, it is an excellent connection point for customers abroad catching a flight continuing onto Germany.

With that said, Condor does experience a bit more competition from this airport than most of the others. Lufthansa flies to Frankfurt and Munich, Germany year-round. As does United Airlines, which is the primary operator at San Francisco International Airport.

This route is flown nearly every day of the week during its active season. The overall distance between San Francisco and Frankfurt spans well over 5600 miles. That means the anticipated flight duration for this route approaches 11 hours.

Los Angeles

The 2nd of the major transpacific gateways found on the West Coast, Los Angeles is home to a daily seasonal flight to Frankfurt by Condor Airlines. Passengers can board a nonstop flight to Frankfurt at Los Angeles International Airport between April and October, with flights being flown daily.

The only competition that Condor receives on this route to Frankfurt is from its rival, Lufthansa Airlines. Surprisingly, Delta Air Lines or American Airlines don’t offer any competition on this route, considering Los Angeles is one of their hubs.

Frankfurt and Los Angeles are separated by 5700 miles, which means the flight time between these two cities on board Condor approaches close to 11 hours.

Anchorage

Probably, the most random city on the list of American cities served by Condor Airlines is Anchorage, Alaska. Most would think that the flight between Frankfurt, Germany, and Alaska would be the longest flight offered by Condor, but it’s not. The distance between Anchorage and Frankfurt is only 4600 miles approximately. That converts into flight time just shy over 9 hours.

Alaskans can find a Condor flight to Germany from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. The route is a seasonal one, offered between May and September. The only other airline offering competition on this route is fellow German leisure airline Discover Airlines, which also operates a seasonal flight to Frankfurt.
