Starting in February 2025, United Airlines will offer year round flights between Dominica and Newark, New Jersey. These flights will be flown once per week, all year long.
Dominica, not to be confused with the Dominican Republic, is an island nation found in the Caribbean. It is near the chain of islands south of Puerto Rico, near St.Lucia.
United will be flying to Dominica’s Douglas-Charles Airport using their Boeing 737-700. Douglas-Charles Airport sports a very short runway. United’s Boeing 737-700 will be the largest aircraft that will be flying into and from the airport.
American Airlines and Silver Airways are the only other American Air carriers that fly to Dominica.
American Airlines operates daily flights from Miami on the Embraer 175. Silver Airways has flights from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Vice President of International Network Matt Stevens said “United is proud to partner with the Discover Dominica Authority to add beautiful Dominica to our leading global route network.
He goes on to mention the new route further solidifies United’s position as the preferred choice of airline for customers looking to fly to unique destinations worldwide.
What Does This New Route Mean For United Customers?
Another Outlet for Travelers Looking to Beat The Winter Weather
The Northeast part of the United States is known for cold weather. With United offering once a week flights from New Jersey, these customers have another warm weather option .
The only concern is that the flight is only offered once a week. You can’t visit Dominica for a weekend. Luckily there is so much to do in Dominica that you’ll want to stay a week.
This Addition Comes in Perfect Timing as Dominica Sures Up Infrastructure for Travel Demand
The announcement by United also coincides with recent upgrades at Douglas-Charles Airport. Recently, they expanded the runway length. The longer runway allows for larger planes like United’s Boeing 737-700.
The airport’s terminal also went through an upgrade, increasing passenger capacity.
External upgrades include new hotels in the area, boosting room availability by 25%.
Ms. Marva Williams, CEO of Discover Dominica Authority commented “This new service will enable Dominica to more fully capitalize on the increasing interest from travelers in visiting the destination, the added capacity of the service will also enable US-based tour operators to more confidently book group travel to Dominica, sharing our product offerings with more travelers than ever before, including world-class scuba and free diving, hiking, wellness and cultural experiences.”
