Northwest Airlines Turbulence Avoidence System
If you don’t like flying into turbulence, you have to thank Northwest Airlines.
Northwest Airlines was known for having a high reputation for safety and passenger comfort due to technology that allowed the airline to avoid turbulence.
Northwest meteorologists developed this turbulence avoidance technology during the 1950s. The technology allowed flight dispatchers and pilots the chance to alter flight routes around areas of likely turbulence.
Today, many airlines have technology to predict and avoid turbulence but have to thank Northwest Airlines for being pioneers of this industry innovation.
