JetBlue Airways announced a new flight that will make Long Islander’s happy. Beginning April 30th, 2025, the airline will start flying from Long Island to Boston. As announced, this flight will offered seasonally until September. Flights will leave and end at either Long Island Macarthur Airport in Islip or Logan International Airport in Boston.
JetBlue has only recently started flying from Long Island Macarthur. In October, the airline began offering nonstop flights to Florida, challenging Southwest Airlines and Frontier Airlines at the airport.
“Since JetBlue has been here at the airport, we’ve had 40 new employees at the airport, so the economic impact of new service, new carriers at our airport means so much to our region,” said Shelly LaRose, the airport’s commissioner of aviation.
This new flight announcement joins 6 other new seasonal destinations offerings from Boston. Besides Long Island, JetBlue will also be flying to Wilmington, Norfolk, Madrid, Edinburgh, Halifax, and Traverse City.
“We continue to focus on growing our leisure network in Boston by introducing more incredible new summer seasonal markets,” said Daniel Shurz, JetBlue’s head of revenue, network and enterprise planning.
What Does This Mean For Long Islanders and JetBlue customers?
This is a Move Beloved by Long Islanders
As a native Long Islander, I LOVE this. Getting off Long Island is the worst. It’s even worse when you are going to New England because you need to travel West past New York City. Potentially sitting in traffic for hours. The only other real alternatives is the Cross Sound Ferry or flying out of JFK or LaGuardia Airports.
Long Island MacArthur is a gem of an airport. With shorter security lines and smaller crowds, you can go from the parking lot to the gate in less than an hour. Unlike JFK or LaGuardia. JetBlue’s addition is definitely a game changer for so many Long Islanders.
For a long time, our only option from Islip was Southwest Airlines. They only fly to Baltimore and Florida from Islip. While much is left to be learned as to what JetBlue is going to bring to the table at Islip, with Frontier and Breeze also in the mix, Long Islanders have more options than ever when it comes to leaving the island that doesn’t involve JFK or LaGuardia.
JetBlue Might Be On a Better Path
For JetBlue, I believe they are on a better path. The bulk of their popularity comes from the Northeast. For a little while they deviated from that customer base and focused more on opportunities elsewhere. With the company running into some financial issues and having to cut some routes, getting back to their core and connecting the major cities on the east coast is a step in the right direction.
