Today, JetBlue Airways announced the launch of service between New York – JFK International Airport and Bonaire’s Flamingo International Airport. The first flight from JFK landed in Bonaire today at 12:17 PM according to Flightradar24.

Bonaire is a Dutch Caribbean Island found West of Aruba and Curaçao. The chain islands of Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao are known as the ABC’s of the Caribbean.

The direct flight between New York City and Bonaire is flown twice weekly. Flights are currently offered on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

“Renowned for its natural beauty, pristine beaches, and warm hospitality, we are excited to launch service to Bonaire, introducing a new destination and more travel options to our customers looking for a Caribbean getaway,” said David Jehn, vice president of network planning and airline partnerships at JetBlue.

“Welcoming JetBlue as an airline partner marks a significant step in our commitment to making our beautiful island more accessible to North American travelers,” noted Miles Mercera, CEO at Tourism Corporation Bonaire. “This expansion not only reflects the growing interest in our region, but also showcases our dedication to fostering tourism and welcoming visitors to experience the unique culture and stunning landscapes we have to offer. Together, we’re paving the way for new adventures and unforgettable memories.”

JetBlue’s launch of service marks the first direct route between New York – JFK and Bonaire.

The inaugural flight was flown using JetBlue’s Airbus A320-200.

What Does This Mean For JetBlue Customers?

JetBlue Furthering Their Leisure Options to The Caribbean

JetBlue currently flies to 29 Caribbean destinations. They are catching up to American Airlines. AA offers flights to 35 Caribbean destinations.

Though JetBlue was distracted by their foray into European transatlantic flying, their commitment to the Caribbean, Central and South America has been great. Tourism demand for several of the destinations that JetBlue has added have never been higher.

Tapping Into Yet Another Underserved Community in New York

It always feels good when underserved communities like Bonaire get direct service to major cities like New York. Not only for the added tourism boosting the island’s economy but for the small population of people from Bonaire who may live in New York City.

Just like JetBlue did with their flights between NYC and Guyana, these people now have a chance to fly directly from JFK Airport and be home with loved ones in a few hours.

JetBlue Throwing Their Name In The Hat in Bonaire Market Share

With Delta, United, and American already having flights to Bonaire, JetBlue will be the fourth American air carrier offering direct flights to Bonaire. While competition can be worrisome in some situations for airlines, the Bonaire situation for now is far from that.

Each of these airlines are not consuming much of each other’s market share. There is some overlap between United and their Newark flight and JetBlue’s JFK flight.

But otherwise, American travelers have more options to get to this beautiful island.
