Avelo Airlines offers an alternative for California since they operate from lesser trafficked airports.

Avelo Airlines started flights between Sonoma County and Ontario, California on October 10th.

These flights will be using Charles M Schulz – Sonoma County Airport and Ontario International Airport. They are flown weekly on Thursdays and Sundays.

Avelo Airlines Founder and CEO Andrew Levy said, “We are thrilled to announce our new nonstop service from Ontario to the Bay Area/Sonoma County, offering travelers a convenient, reliable, and affordable way to one of the most beautiful and vibrant regions in Northern California. We look forward to inspiring travel to Sonoma County and Southern California this fall.”

“It’s fantastic to see Avelo connect Sonoma County with Ontario,” said STS Airport Manager Jon Stout. “This new route will bring a new level of convenience for our local residents and our neighbors in the Inland Empire.”

Currently, there are 4 airlines serving Sonoma County.

Avelo Airlines offers the second most number of year round destinations 6 from Sonoma County. Alaska Airlines is the only airline that provides more service. Only Avelo and Alaska serve Southern California.

From Ontario International Airport, the flight to Sonoma will be Avelo’s second destination.

Avelo Airlines has been growing their network since they started in 2021.

What does this new flight mean for Avelo Airline Customers?

Another Avelo Airlines Offering on The West Coast.

Avelo Airlines has spent the first few years of its existence building up its flight network.

If you look at their route map, you will notice that the bulk of the flights offered by the airline are on the East Coast.

Avelo’s main hub is at Tweed New Haven Airport in Connecticut. Northeast travelers have many options spread across the country for flights on Avelo.

Avelo’s offering on the west coast leaves much to be desired.

The airline uses Burbank International Airport as its West Coast hub for flights. From Burbank, all Avelo’s West Coast destinations connect through there. Sonoma County Airport connects the second most destinations.

However, the number of flights offered to the West Coast isn’t close to what’s offered on the East Coast.

The new Sonoma County – Ontario is a step in the right direction for Avelo to grow its West Coast network.

Travel Between Northern California and Southern California Got Cheaper and Easier.

The Sonoma County – Ontario route gives California travelers another great alternative. San Francisco and Los Angeles have busy airports and lots of traffic.

By using lesser trafficked airports, Avelo provides passengers a more pleasant airport experience.

Avelo gives travelers flying between Northern and Southern California the chance to travel on a budget. Avelo’s is an ultra low cost carrier.

This comes in handy when you spend an expensive weekend golfing or visiting the expensive wineries found in the Napa Valley.

With major carriers like American, Southwest, Delta charging premium ticket prices for such a short flight, there is room for the ULCC’s like Avelo and Frontier to come in and challenge for market share. The low price alone makes Avelo a good option for passengers to try.
