Main Base – Fort-Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

Fort Lauderdale is considered the main base for Spirit Airlines as it offers the most routes out of any hub that Spirit Operates.

Fort Lauderdale is also a major crew base for both flight attendants and pilots. There are also Spirit Airlines maintenance facilities located at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport as well.

Where is Spirit Airlines located in the airport?

Spirit Airlines operates out of terminal 4 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. It shares the terminal with JetBlue Airways, Air Transat, Avianca Airlines, Avelo Airlines, Caribbean Airlines, and Norse Atlantic Airways. 

Terminal 4 is in the southwest corner of the airport. If you follow terminal Terminal Road past the turn you will have no trouble finding it. The terminal is across the street from the Palm parking garage. It is represented by the color green. 

There are two floors to Terminal 4. The first floor is dedicated to arrivals and is where the bagging claim area is. Level 2 is the check-in area for departures. Terminal 4 is where Concourse G and H are found. Concourse G contains 5 gates, numbered between G10 and G14. Concourse H is a brand new concourse and it currently features 14 gates. There is a walkway that connects Terminal 3 and Terminal 4.

How many flights does Spirit Fly out of Fort Lauderdale?

 The two longest flights from Detriot through Spirit Airlines are to Los Angeles and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The flight from Detriot to Los Angeles is 1977 miles in distance and takes roughly 4 to 5 hours to be completed depending on the direction you’re going.

Flying between San Juan and Detriot is a slightly longer flight being 2088 miles and distance and taking 4 to 5 hours to finish.

It is also an important destination in Florida because it is located right in the middle of the state. Spirit has a large presence at airports in Southern Florida. Dallas is a heavily competitive market rivaling that of New York, each having multiple airports to keep up with market demand.

Spirit Airlines utilized Terminal E and sometimes Terminal D for the operation of its flights. However, they exclusively use terminal E for departures. Dallas Forth Worth laid out its terminals in a line-abreast layout, meaning the terminals are built in a single-file fashion. Terminal D and Terminal E are right next to each other. The more northern terminal is D and the one directly after that to the South is terminal E.

The terminals at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport are very easily accessible. There is a highway that bisects right in between all the terminals so you won’t have an issue getting to the terminal you need to go to.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) in Chicago, Illinois

Chicago is a major business city in the Midwest of the United States. The demand for people trying to escape the harsh northern winter weather was too much for Spirit Airlines to ignore. Much of their flights from Chicago bring Chicagoans down South to warmer temperatures.

Spirit uses Terminal 3 at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. On occasions, they have been known to use terminal 5 for their arrivals.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport is probably one of the more difficult airports to navigate on this list so please use caution. 

Terminal 3 is found as the second to last terminal in the spoke of terminals along I-90 Kennedy Expressway. It is located right across from parking lot C.

Terminal 5 is found separately from the main bunch of terminals. It is the most eastern terminal on the airport property. You will most likely pass Terminal 5 on the way to getting to the other main terminals at Chicago O’Hare.

Just like Dallas, Spirit does operate a reduced amount of nonstop flights from Chicago in comparison to some of the other hubs on the list.

Terminal J at Miami International Airport is used by Spirit Airlines for both departing and arriving flights. Terminal J is found at the end of the spoke of terminals. 

If you take NW 21st Street all around the airport, the last terminal you will pass will be Terminal J. The closest parking lot to Terminal J is the South Lot which is found at a Southeastern diagonal line away from Terminal J. 

How many flights does Spirit Fly out of Miami?

The airline operates a reduced amount of flights from this base. Spirit offers a total of 17 nonstop flights from Miami. Most of the flights offered are primarily located on the East Coast of the United States. 

They do fly a route as far west as Las Vegas. Spirit also flies to San Juan, Puerto Rico from Miami.

Houston – George Bush International Airport (IAH) in Houston, Texas

Spirit Airlines utilizes Houston as its hub in its attempt to remain competitive in the Southern Texas market. In particular, low-cost airlines like Southwest Airlines use hubs in both Dallas and Houston. Just like Dallas, Houston is a big market for air carriers since there are two airports serving the area.

Spirit Airlines uses Terminal A at Houston-George Bush International Airport. Navigating to Terminal A is quite simple at George Bush International Airport.

As you can probably assume by its name, this terminal is the northernmost terminal located on the airfield. It can be best accessed through the service roads right off Highway 85.

This terminal is also home to many of the domestic United States airlines currently operating at Hartsfield such as JetBlue and Frontier.
